Police, paramedics and firefighters are in attendance at a road traffic collision involving several vehicles in Shanklin this evening (Friday).
A Ford Focus CC has collided head on into railings near Skew Bridge on Shanklin Road after also colliding with a Ford Focus and a Mercedes A Class.
Island Echo is told that the driver – a male – was taken unwell at the wheel. He had 2 children on board at the time.
Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are checking over those involved, with an operational commander also mobilised to the scene.
1 fire appliance from Shanklin is also in attendance in the interests of scene safety.
The road remains open under Police direction.

The highway code states that you must be fit to drive before getting behind the wheel. It is very rare that when someone has a ‘medical’ episode behind the wheel that they have an unknown condition. They know they are unfit to drive. Time the families do the right thing and tell them to stop driving.
Rubbish. Sometimes these things come out of the blue.
That’s exactly what happened. I had already stopped the car because I felt sick. After some fresh air I felt much better but then moments later this happened. Just glad everyone is ok – some bruised ribs and some smashed up cars but we all live to tell the tale.

Well that’s interesting as I was driving. Have not been unwell, have no underlying conditions and after a brain scan, ray, numerous blood and urine tests last night the doctors are baffled. I’m not offended by what you say but perhaps you need to take a little more care in airing your views when they are based on your feeling rather than fact.

What an idiot, I’ll put money on the fact that if you have a good think, you will know someone that has appeared to be in reasonable health and more than capable of driving a car and they have either, taken ill, collapsed, been rushed to hospital, or possibly even passed away suddenly and unexpectedly.
Then you throw the adverse reactions and illnesses that have developed in people that have had COVID jabs over the past 18 months……you’re completely unaware that they’re all walking/driving around with a possible medical episode waiting to happen….
To the driver, glad to hear you’re able to talk about it, hope you get some answers from the doctors and make a full and speedy recovery!
