The Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance has touched down in Shanklin this afternoon (Sunday) in response to an urgent medical emergency in the town. The life-saving charity was alerted to the situation at around 13:30, with flying medics deployed from their base at Thruxton, near Andover. The yellow and green helicopter has since landed at the county ground off Green Lane in Shanklin, but the incident is at an address on nearby Hope Road. Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, including a critical care paramedic and an operational commander, are already tending their patient. UPDATE @ 14:30 – The air ambulance doctors and paramedics have now stood down from the incident, having spent a short time on scene at Hope Road.
The patient has not been conveyed by air. The air ambulance has, however, relocated to St Mary’s Hospital’s helipad in Newport having taken off from Green Lane.
