Yarmouth RNLI’s All Weather Lifeboat, the Eric and Susan Hiscock (Wanderer), was called to assist a boat with 11 passengers on board yesterday afternoon (Sunday).
The 31ft boat ‘Alaminta’ was close to the Needles rocks when it experienced steering problems and was unable to manoeuvre. She had 11 people on board who had paid for a day out to catch mackerel.
A passing rigid inflatable boat (RIB) attempted to tow the vessel clear of any danger, however it soon became clear that more towing power was required resulting in Solent Coastguard requesting the launch of Yarmouth RNLI at 14:49.
The Severn-class lifeboat was alongside the casualty vessel by 15:15 and started the tow back to Yarmouth, where all returned safely by 16:10.
