eastcowesaftermarthconnorA fire that ripped through a materials store in East Cowes last Friday has been confirmed as a suspected arson attack with detectives now appealing for witnesses to come forward with information. 

The blaze, as reported by Island Echo, was started deliberately at around 18:00 on Friday evening in a material stores area of the property development at Old Road, a site owned by David Wilson Homes.

DC Vicky Hayward of Hampshire Constabulary said: “We are taking this matter very seriously as the fire was started close to residential property and local people were understandably concerned.

“Witnesses report seeing two youths seen near the security gates to the site at about 6pm. They are both described as between 13 and 14 years old and of medium build. One was wearing dark jeans and a dark grey hoody and the other a bright yellow T-shirt.

eastcowesyouthblurredTwo youths, aged 13 and 14 (pictured), were arrested and have since been released on police bail due to report back on June 1.

Anyone with information or footage of the fire can contact DC Vicky Hayward at Newport CID by calling 101. Information can be given anonymously by phoning the independent Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111.
