Funds raised through the Isle of Wight Memorial Cup have been donated to Mountbatten Hospice in Newport.
The Isle of Wight Football League Management Committee selected Mountbatten as the beneficiary of this season’s Memorial Cup proceeds, continuing the competition’s long-standing tradition of supporting charitable causes.
League chairman Ian Smith and treasurer John Hopkinson presented a cheque for £421.29 to Lauretta Blake on 26th May.
Speaking on behalf of the hospice, Lauretta said she was delighted to accept the donation and praised Island football for giving something back to a local charity rooted in the community.
This season’s Memorial Cup was won by Whitecroft & Barton Sports, who beat Brading Town 3-0 in the final at Westwood Park on 23rd April. Sam Cant, Dan Pearson and Ollie Frost were all on target for W&B as they lifted the trophy.
Mr Smith said he hoped the presentation would mark the beginning of an ongoing relationship between the Isle of Wight Football League and Mountbatten.
