A frantic late arrival and mid-race mechanical failed to stop Isle of Wight triathlete Jade Davies storming to victory at the Huntsman Sprint Triathlon.
What began as a nightmare morning turned into a remarkable success story for Wight Tri athlete Jade Davies at the Huntsman Sprint Triathlon on Sunday.
After her alarm failed to go off, Jade arrived late and was forced into a desperate sprint to reach the start line before the race began.
With barely enough time to put on her wetsuit, she entered the water moments before the mass start got underway.
Despite the chaotic start, Jade completed the 400m swim in 15 minutes and 40 seconds before settling into the 33km bike course.
Drama struck again near the end of the ride when her chain came off, threatening to end her race prematurely.
Thankfully, the issue was quickly fixed and Jade was able to continue, completing the bike leg in 1 hour, 4 minutes and 20 seconds.
She then battled through the final 5km run in difficult conditions, crossing the finish line in 20 minutes and 45 seconds.
Jade stopped the clock at 1 hour, 43 minutes and 33 seconds overall — enough to secure 1st Place Lady despite the eventful morning.
