A man has been left with a head injury after being ‘bottled’ during a violent incident in Sandown yesterday (Thursday), which unfolded in front of families on the beach.
Police were called to Eastern Gardens on Culver Parade at 15:43 following reports of a serious assault.
Officers attended and found that a 58-year-old man had suffered a laceration to his head.
It’s said that the victim was hit around the head before being kicked during the disturbance, which happened in full view of beachgoers enjoying the warm weather.
Island Echo is told that the injured man fell into 2 children who were making sandcastles nearby, with families said to have been left frightened by the incident.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 56-year-old man from Newport has been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm.
He remains in custody at this time.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Police on 101, quoting reference 44260251182.
UPDATE – The 58-year-old suspect has been released on bail until 28th August.

Welcome to the Sandown on the beautiful Isle of Wight. Entertainment for all the family. Such a peaceful venue for your family to relax.
And not the youth of the Island to blame!!look at the age of this challenged bully…poor children hope they were not to traumatised by this loonie tunes of a male!.
It does state “an whole days fun in one”
in Shabby Sandown
Maybe they should add the word NOT!
Blackpool is safer than Sandown thesedays!
♂️
And i bet they’ll try and give the attacker an out of court referral for it instead of taking them to court. We need more police, we need more prison space and we need more court space. With a population quickly growing and billions of holiday makers coming to the south of England every year, millions of which here on the island, the fact we’ve not invested in any part of our legal system practically since ww2 is astounding.
Utter scumbags. Two legged vermin that need eradicating.
What a disgrace. I am a judgy person so I’m going to blame boozed up layabouts. The police should be moving these people on from the seafront. The beach is all Sandown has going for it these days. Don’t let this scum take that away too.
Maybe the Police are frightened to go to Sandown.
Have you got the bottel to go? And why not stay at the lovely oyo hotel full of the worst scum on the island?
The Hotel should be closed down and the troublemakers need
conscripting into the army.
We dont need scumbags with zero discipline in the Army thiugh thank you!
Send them to Ukraine in Russian uniform and they can make themselves useful for drone practice
Really should know better at their age! Chavs.
Sandown is such a sh*thole thesedays it requires
permanent policing.
Question is did the police handcuff the right person. Starmers lawless Britain strikes again.
This is what we get when scum of the earth is allowed to mix with ordinary people
Scum never mixes with good folk.
Surprised not more incidents on beachs. Seen couple of altercations ryde and yaverland when selfish people with music playing annoy others coming for a peaceful beach day. Has no one got headphones anymore..Guess its the ”me” society of today.
Same with numpties who kick balls around on
beaches or light barbecues.
Beaches need policing
