Wight Tri’s Rob Webb has achieved an impressive result at the Swanage Standard Distance Triathlon on Sunday (29th June), tackling the tough coastal course to finish 30th overall and 4th in his age category.
The triathlon, set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, began with a 1,500-metre swim from the beach at Swanage Bay. Rob found himself battling for position early on but settled into a steady rhythm, enjoying the warm conditions and crossing the swim finish in a time of 33:38.
A stubborn wetsuit made for a challenging T1 transition, but after some determined effort, Rob was out on the 38km bike leg. The ride took athletes through rolling hills between Swanage and the dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle. Rob completed the demanding route – which included plenty of testing climbs – in 1:20:49.
The final run proved just as tough, with a climb up Portland Down, a stretch along the coastal trail to Old Harry Rocks and a return along the seafront. Mixing running and strategic walking, Rob kept his momentum to finish the 10km section in 57:23.
His overall time of 2:56:17 secured him 30th place out of 84 competitors and 4th in the 50-54 age category – an excellent result on a challenging course.
