Wight Tri athletes enjoyed a medal-laden day at the Southampton Fast Twitch Triathlon on Sunday (19th April), claiming multiple podium finishes.
Wight Tri once again made the journey across the Solent – and returned with a haul of silverware – as 12 members took on the Southampton Fast Twitch Triathlon.
The popular sprint-format event featured a 400m pool swim, followed by a 21km bike ride through the New Forest and Beaulieu, before concluding with a 5km run. Athletes were met with warm spring sunshine throughout, allowing for ideal racing conditions without the need for extra layers.
After exiting the pool, competitors mounted their bikes and headed out onto the scenic but occasionally testing course, where traffic proved a minor obstacle for some. The run began with a demanding climb up Roman Road before winding its way towards Dibden Purlieu, where competitors were greeted by strong support at the finish.
Leading the way for the Island club was Jan Fletcher, who produced a commanding performance to take 1st place in the female category in a time of 1:09:59. Strong across all 3 disciplines, Fletcher set the pace early and maintained her advantage to secure top spot.
Chris Till also impressed, finishing 2nd overall in the male category with a time of 59:39 – just 5 seconds behind the race winner. Despite encountering delays on the bike section, Till delivered a powerful performance to secure his place on the podium.
There was further success for Wight Tri across multiple age categories, underlining the club’s depth of talent.
Jade Davies claimed 1st place in the Ladies 25-29 category (1:15:02), while Arielle Elton-Waters topped the Ladies 35-39 group in 1:22:51, with Lizzie Elton-Waters also making the podium in 3rd (1:27:21).
Kelly Moorman finished 3rd in the Ladies 45-49 category (1:21:41), while Claire Squirrell secured 2nd place in the Ladies 55-59 group (1:20:49). Annette Hickman added another podium finish with 3rd in the Ladies 60-64 category (1:32:30).
In the men’s categories, Loic Le Floch claimed 3rd place in the 50-54 division with a time of 1:16:37.
The results capped another successful outing for Wight Tri, continuing their strong presence at mainland events.
