The Wight Tri quartet of Jan Fletcher, Helen Scholes, Laura Curwood and Nick Curwood took on the Dorney Lake course in Windsor on Sunday (25th May).
This venue is a 2,200-metre flat-water rowing lake owned by Eton College and famous for hosting prestigious regattas.
Laura took on the Super Sprint (400m Swim | 10km Bike | 2.5km Run), a race short enough to make it sound manageable, but intense enough to leave competitors questioning their life choices halfway through. Rising to the challenge, Laura came 11th out of 41 non-disabled athletes with a finish time of 00:45:50.
After completing a triathlon the week before at Nottingham Outlaw Spring Tri, Jan and Helen participated another Sprint-distance showdown (750m Swim | 20km Bike | 5km Run).

Jan – with her eyes set on a World Championships place in 2026 in Pontavedra – powered through with a rapid finish time of 1:15:19, coming 5th in her age category (50-54) and 31st out of 131 females. Though she didn’t gain automatic qualification, she fought hard against a field of strong competitors and now sets her sights on Blenheim Palace in 2 weeks.
Helen – another World Championship hopeful – managed a spectacular 1:24:03 finish time, securing 8th place in her age category (55-59).
Nick entered the Sprint Age Qualifiers. Nick smashed his race in a time of 01:17:44 (exact placing still to be confirmed).
