An extra £1,500 of funding has been secured to ensure the continuation of ‘Warm Spaces in The Bay’ in Sandown, Lake and Shanklin. The additional money follows on from a £2,000 grant in December last year. It means that warm spaces will continue to operate at Christ Church in Sandown and at Age Concern in Shanklin, alongside Lake Methodist Church. Local councillors, parishioners and volunteers recently came together for the presentation of a cheque by Shanklin Mayor Robert May and Sandown Mayor Alex Lightfoot. Heather Whitchurch, who coordinates the scheme, said:
“We are very aware of the financial pressures being faced by families at this time of year, with energy and food costs increasing, and we wanted to do something to help respond to the local need”.
Councillor Alex Lightfoot added:
“We are working with partners in Lake and Shanklin to sustain a support network, as well as make sure there is a warm space in each town in the Bay’.
Shanklin Mayor Robert May concluded:
“Voluntary groups have always been at the heart of local communities, and this initiative highlights the value and strength of working together for the benefit of those that need help”.

But it is 18 degrees Celsius today and getting warmer …
Get a job and keep warm!
