Multiple vehicles have been seized by Police for driving without insurance on the Island this morning (Saturday).
The first vehicle, a silver Peugeot was stopped by officers from Hampshire Constabulary on St George’s Way earlier today.
After this stoppage the same officers later stopped a Citroen Berlingo campervan at Tesco in Ryde.
As a result of the stoppages, both vehicles were seized with the drivers forced to find alternative transport to their destinations.
Both owners will now need to produce valid insurance to Police before the cars are able to be returned to them.
They will both also face a fine of £300 and see 6 points added to their licence.
Fees will be incurred for the storage of the vehicles, with the cars to be crushed if they aren’t collected.

UPDATE @ 13:10 – Its a hat-trick now.
The same officers have stopped a black Citroen for the same offence of driving without insurance in Brading. The driver will have to show proof of insurance before they can get the vehicle back.
UPDATE @ 14:15 – Police have seized yet another vehicle. This time a Ford Transit van being used for business purposes.
The owner will need to show valid proof of insurance before they can get the car back.

Good to see our police doing a good job, now they need to target drug and drink driving alongside the idiots that drive with hoodies restricting their vision….plonkers…
Pays to be vigilant – sure sign we need more police doing this on the Island. Well done for apprehending these two, bet there are more to be found.
i bet there are a number who haven’t taken their cars on the road during this short “crackdown”, if found guilty they should be banned from driving for life as if they were involved in a crash it is the innocent victim who gets financially hammered by the insurers, driving is a privilege and not a right.
If the vehicles have any value, they should be put on the market and funds raised goi to the police instead of just being crushed.
Well said, Mr Bloggs.
Plod should take it in turns and walk down island
Roads and Streets checking all vehicle registrations
For MOT & TAX
This method always worked well in the past.
Neighbours etc for neighbourhood watch can easily check on
Registrations
Going into Government website
http://www.gov.uk check mot history
GET THESE NUMPTY’S OFF THE ROAD
Start by walking around Ryde
Great Preston Road etc
Whilst at it, stop Morons Parking on Pavements.
Parking permits down such Roads are also a good idea, far too many persons clogging up Roads like Great Preston Rd.
Why aren’t traffic wardens doing the same?
Traffic Wardens are useless, they are too busy booking people who have gone 5 minutes over on their tickets.
On the Island you can Park on Pavements, Zig Zags and Double Yellow lines and no one cares.
Lawless island
Or download free Apps from the App Store like Vehicle Smart. This tells you if a car is Taxed and when the MOT expires.
Do what i do check my street for tax. MOT and insurance, any found without put big sticker on window. I have a 100% success on all the vehicles i have stickered all are now legal.
People power i don’t care what people think of me.
I agree with you Rob, we all have to abide by the law, no exceptions?
Excellent work… hope you are checking the motorbikes too, especially those small noisy ones with L PLATES, modified or after sales exhaust mods…
If the camper goes up for sale I would be interested…
While I think insurance is a good idea we shouldn’t have to pay road tax. You brainwashed morons would think otherwise.
The police are just revenue collection service. In reality the police should be arresting every crooked politician in the UK for crimes against humanity. They won’t because they have no testicles.
Road Tax hasn’t existed since 1937 but don’t let that get in the way of your drivel.
Driving without insurance seems to be very common. Also too many people think if they’ve got fully comprehensive on their own car or van then that means they can drive anyone else’s car/van with third party cover which isn’t always the case.
They should patrol regularly up Whippingham Rd. And Fairley Rd. The motorbikes fly up and down there at night , I hear them all the time laid in bed at night.
Buy a tyre stinger that will stop them
Good, self entitled jerks, they clearly have no concern about what will happen if they are involved in an incident, I guess they think it is their “right” to not be responsible for anything they do?
IMO this is not a chance occurrence, it is a reflection of just how many uninsured drivers there is likely to be out there on our roads. Should be an indicator to the authorities that even greater resource should be applied to further weed out this crime.
I’m not sure but i think these cars may all belong to same person..as they all seem to have the same pumpkin sticker on them..surely not a coincedence..
At last, a bit of clever humour. Nice one, Tempy,
Keep up the brilliant work to the police. Why should these people not pay tax/ insurance/ mot etc, we all have to.
Problem with all these drivers with no insurance is its cheaper to take the chance and if they gey caught it is still loads cheaper then paying the huge price for the insurance even with the fine, storage, charges. Its the insurance company’s that need to be regulated, I know of youngsters that have to have transport to get to work, buy a cheap little car for £700 but the insurance cost nearly £3000 if that kid has an accident and rights off that car he will be lucky to get £300. Who can blame them when we are all constantly ripped off by insurance.
Any ideas whether the noisy car drivers have got valid insurance, isn’t it against the law to make your car noisy, or have i got it totally wrong?
It makes for a good sound bite and a nice little virtue-signalling news article, but really, this could easily be done via DVLA on a computerised targeted list if they were really serious about it. My neighbour rarely taxes her car and yet year after year gets away with driving it. Very likewise the insurance lapses too, and definitely the MOT. Do police pop round to registered addresses of vehicles known not to be SORNED, taxed or insured? No, they do not. Instead they sit on roads for hours hoping for such cars to pass their cameras.
Why do you not get of your butt and put stickers on the offending car inform police and council.
I know for a fact this works, might be slow but does get a result
Great job, keep it going! As I’ve said before, too many have been getting away with too much for too long.
If you wanna drive/ride on the public highway, be legal with everything or your day will come and your ride will get taken!
That is the campa van that tried to push down the side of my at the red lights. I was on my bycicle in the bike waiting area. I was to the right as I was going to turn right. They were edging forward past the line the cars are supposed to stop at along side me. I got of my bike and moved to the pavement. Could not risk this uninsured driver taking me out. Utter arse hole.
That’s if u believe all the evidence from the police which has just admitted they have more corrupt police officers than ever before
