Red Funnel has warned lorry drivers against sounding their horns while disembarking ferries in East Cowes following reports linked to young truck spotters filming vehicles for social media content.
Taking to Facebook earlier this afternoon, Isle of Wight Police said that concerns had been raised locally about trucks repeatedly sounding their horns after arriving in East Cowes from the mainland.
Following recent discussions between Hampshire & Isel of Wight Constabulary and Red Funnel management, it has emerged that some young truck spotters wearing high-visibility jackets have been encouraging drivers to sound their horns while filming videos and taking photos to upload to their TikTok accounts.
The activity is said to take place mainly before and after school hours.
Red Funnel has confirmed it will remind drivers not to sound their horns unnecessarily when leaving the ferry terminal.
The ferry operator also warned that staff have previously had to move children away from operational areas, including the storage yard and vehicle waiting areas, due to safety concerns.
Parents are being asked to ensure children remain within public areas around the terminal for their own safety.
