A vessel which got into trouble while competing in the Round the Island Race on Saturday (1st July) was safely brought ashore this morning (Tuesday) after drifting half way around the Isle of Wight.
The Farrier 27, called Origami, was initially recovered on Saturday morning by teams from HM Coastguard and lifeboats from Yarmouth, Freshwater and Mudeford after capsizing off The Needles.
A spokesperson for HM Coastguard said of that incident:
“Casualties on board were recovered to shore and the vessel was towed into Yarmouth Harbour.”
Now, the vessel has been towed to Ventnor Haven with the assistance of a fishing vessel after it was spotted off the Ventnor coast early this morning (Tuesday).
Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat was tasked to the area by Solent Coastguard and worked with the local fishing boat to tow the trimaran into the harbour shortly after 11:00.
This latest incident follows a busy weekend for emergency services as several vessels got into trouble during the Round the Island Race, as previously reported by Island Echo. This included Coco De Mer, a multi-million pound vessel, which capsized off Bembridge Ledge, throwing 14 casualties and a dog into the water.

Where are the owners? I can’t find any information about them recovering the yacht. They are responsible surely? Kind of the rescue services and fishing boat to help out recovering the vessel twice but they shouldn’t have had to.
Not really any of your busness.
It’s none of your business either, so finish what ever your taking, and go back to sleep….
Quite right, something not right here. How come Yarmouth Harbour not notice it had gone? – clearly couldn’t be sailed out. Insurance job?.
You wouldn’t say that if it was your pride and joy of a yacht floating away.
one wonders who was responisble for tying it up at Yarmouth,..
not the RNLI I hope,. I’d like to think they know how to tie knots properly
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I read that it had been towed into Yarmouth harbour but drifted back out to sea! So was it left to drift into other boats while it was in there? Good grief!
I think the boat got further without any crew. The boat probably thought it could do a better job
I’m sure daddy will buy them a new one now the toy has been broken.
Dear island echo, you have you’re facts wrong! This vessel was never towed back to Yarmouth! Please can you get you’re information right before posting next time!
Dear Islander, you have your grammar wrong.
You should be using “your” (meaning belonging to you) not “you’re” (meaning ‘you are’)
Please can you get your grammar right before posting next time!
Oh dear! I wouldn’t recommend correcting the grammar in comments or you will never rest. Most are borderline illiterate.
Dear wightlink, I have dyslexia. You *****
How can it drift itself out of Yarmouth harbour, then round the Needles along past Compton to Ventnor, probably some 15/18miles before anyone noticed ?.
This is false information!
Funny enough, just saw this drifting out of Ventnor harbour on its way back to Yarmouth Harbour to be tied back up again.
