The Island’s only Body Shop store is to close within the next 6 weeks it has today (Leap Day) been confirmed. As previously reported by Island Echo FRP Advisory was appointed by owners Aurelius to oversee the administration process, which relates to the UK arm of the brand, earlier this month. The Body Shop has more than 200 shops across the UK, including the Newport branch on High Street, but a total of 75 are to close. It is expected the closure will take place imminently with the doors to close for the final time within the next 4-6 weeks. It is unclear as to the exact number of staff that will be made redundant as a result.

Another empty building on the high street. Very sad. RIP retail.
Such sad news, so sorry for staff.
Another ‘Body’ blow for the ailing high street.
Oh no looks like i’ll have to… order online
funny that’s what I do anyway
That advert in the window alone says it all in the ‘Go woke,go broke’ of things.Anita’s glorious concept deep-sixed by corporate-wokeism allied to usurious pricings. So predictable,so depressing.
What? Are you speaking English here?
Use it or loose it, we shop online and this is what happens….Council’s don’t help with their extortionate business rates, and little Hitlers hounding the car drivers…
You big fool if your using my name than at least get thumbs down!you sad old lonely loser enjoy being in you own! haha
I learned earlier today that every Londoner pays £400 extra annually to fund their Mayor, Sadiqui Karni and his wokey-pokey schemes. It is one taxation I was unaware of – I bet Londoners are not, either.
It makes me question what the Isle of Wight Council does for the residents of the Island after charging extortionate business rates? All I see are more potholes, more wokey-pokey policies being approved, a lack of funding for schools, and a Healthcare system that isn’t fit for purpose. And then there is the fiasco with Mr McBoaty Chain Ferry. £50,000 was paid for an independent investigation to establish that Mr McBoaty was never fit for purpose due to its poor design – I could have told them that.
Care to post a link to your claim?
I guess nobody was using anymore and working with skeleton staff !.
Sorry for staff.
Amazing how busy it was when I passed today. No point feeling sorry for it if you’ve never or hardly supported the business.
Councils are responsible for these closures, they do not help
Businesses by charging extortionate business rates and
ridiculous parking charges for persons to park in
Town Centres.
Lack of custom is responsible for the sad downfall of this business, alongside poor management.
Didn’t generate enough profit margin for Aurelius, who knew that on purchase last year. Curiously, they are putting all global stores into administration too. Someone clearly wants ethical toiletries gone….
Making way for another coffee shop or charity shop. Is this the council’s long term strategic plan?
It’s not just the councils fault… Private landlords of these buildings will never reduce rents. Imagine running a business and paying out 4k per month on rent, for no asset. Absolutely ludicrous. Then look at the old businesses that are still trading, many own the building they trade from. So unless rents drop, or more businesses buy the premises that they trade from, the future will be bleak.
Very little to do with that, it’s more to do with the investment and acquisitions company who own it. They’ve been busy this month shutting down Body Shop globally. Take away the choice of ethical consumerism, you push people toward whatever alternatives they big finance want you to buy.
You could always choose not to buy at all.
