A woman in her 70s has died after getting into difficulties in the sea at Seagrove Bay yesterday afternoon (Monday).
As previously reported by Island Echo, emergency services were mobilised to the popular stretch of coast between Seaview and Priory Bay shortly before 16:30 when a female was pulled from the water.
The Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance landed on the beach and doctors immediately got to work in a bid to save the woman’s life. Paramedics and an operational commander from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service were also present, alongside Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.
Sadly, nothing could be done to save the casualty’s life and she was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“We were called shortly before 5pm yesterday (25 April) to an area of beach near Seaview after a woman had got into difficulties in the water.
“The woman, aged in her 70s, was subsequently pronounced dead despite the efforts of paramedics.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file is being prepared for the Coroner.
“Her next of kin is aware”.
