Willing volunteers are still cooking up a storm – and delivering the food – to those who are struggling to access support in the Pan, Pan Meadows and Barton areas of Newport.
Although community centres and cafes on the Island have had to close due to isolation measures, those in need can still enjoy a daily meal thanks to a grant of £5,000 from the Sovereign Housing Association Coronavirus Fund, hosted by the Good Exchange.
Pan Together , the charity which runs Downside Community Centre and the Isobel Café, is offering a £2 a meal delivery service for those who live within Pan, Pan Meadows and Barton that need a little extra help – and a hot meal.
Rachel Thomson from Pan Together, said:
“If people would like a meal bringing to them, all they need to do is order by 10.30am for a delivery at lunchtime the same day. We’re cooking foods to suit all tastes from shepherd’s pie to fish and chips; from minted lamb burgers to quiche and salad. Some people are ordering in advance for a week or two whilst others are getting in touch as and when they need something.”
The charity is also offering help with essential shopping and prescription collections.
Anyone that needs support in the area can phone 01983 248170 between 09:00-17:00, 7 days a week or email [email protected].
Toby Eaglen, Community Development Officer for Sovereign Housing Association, said:
“The Coronavirus Fund is available to any charity offering support to vulnerable people during the current covid-19 crisis, with grants of up to £5,000 available. For more information on the fund, please email [email protected].”

Now that looks very tasty, do they deliver outside of Pan?. Proper food, no fancy stacked chips in a tiny metal bucket, or drizzled with some tasteless coloured liquid.
So missing my local cafe. Only go in now and then, can’t eat too much. But when I do it is amazing. Keeps me going all day. Looking at you “The Captains Table”. 🙂 I hope they make it, I will making a special trip when it’s safe to do so. Good luck to all cafe owners, you help to make the island special.
Great idea, some great choices aswell.
I’m the Community Centre Manager for Pan Together – and thank you for your kind comments! Unfortunately our charity resources mean that we can only deliver to people who live within Pan, Pan Meadows or Barton and are self-isolating with little support. If you or anyone you know fits these criteria, do please get in touch. All of our support services are available from Monday to Friday.
As the local councillor and a trustee of Pan Together I am so proud of what Rachel and her team are delivering during the crisis. We set up the community support a week before lockdown and it has exceeded my expectations. As ever Pan shows the strength of community.
Great work to all involved. I clap for you. 🙂
Brilliant wish I lived on Pan love the shop but haven’t been able to go as in lockdown.
Keep up the Great work and all my mates on Pan Stay Safe
