Sue with her 2 sons, Jayden (left) and Lucas (right)Mum-of-4 Sue Bulmer has thanked the generosity of those who donated funds towards her cancer treatment, which has allowed her more time with her family. In 2009, at just 35-years-old Sue Bulmer, from Sandown, found out she had ocular melanoma (OM) in her left eye and, as a result, had her whole eye removed. Some 13 years later, in October 2022, whilst having her yearly liver scan, Sue found out that the melanoma had returned and metastasized to her liver. This is sadly classed as Stage 4 incurable cancer. Despite undergoing 3 courses of immunotherapy at Southampton General Hospital, sadly, as it does with many other patients, the immunotherapy made her very unwell and her liver was unable to cope and started to fail. As previously reported by Island Echo, a fundraiser was launched back in March 2023 to raise money to allow Sue to undergo Chemosaturation, a revolutionary cancer treatment. A total of over £80,000 was raised thanks to the generosity of local people and businesses. Among them were Apex Competitions who donated £7,500. A mystery person donated £30,000 on the day of Sue’s 2nd Chemosaturation treatment – their identity remains unknown to this day. Despite the success of the first 2 courses of treatment – and Sue being told the the size of her tumours had shrunk in half – doctors have now revealed that the cancer has spread once again and that to take money for a 3rd treatment would be ‘unethical’. Sue (Left) and her son Lucas (Right) Determined to carry on with her life as best she can and supported by her husband Billy who has been at her side throughout it all, Sue is in the process of sorting out a return to The Briars Care Home in Sandown, where she worked as a care giver before she was forced to stop working. Speaking to Island Echo on heading back to work, Sue has said:
“I didn’t think it would be possible to get to the point were I could go back to work, but I know I’ve got so much left to give. “It’s a little while away for now with the paperwork bits to do, but I’m hoping to get back to doing some part time hours in the next month or so. “Everyone at The Briars has been amazing throughout everything. I’m really grateful.”
As for the rest of 2024, Sue is to celebrate her 50th birthday later this year and is looking forward to seeing pop megastar Taylor Swift with her daughter in the Summer – after her son-in-law bagged the pair some tickets. Sue went on to say:
