The Riverside Centre in Newport has still not opened as a vaccination site for the Isle of Wight, despite initial reports it would be vaccinating locals from Monday 25th January.
The Isle of Wight Clinical Commissioning Group says that a date is yet to be finalised for the opening of the centre, although sources tell Island Echo that the first vaccines are expected on Tuesday (2nd February).
It is anticipated that up to 500 vaccinations a day will be carried out on weekdays, significantly boosting the Island’s ability to vaccinate the population as quickly as possible.
Riverside will join other vaccination sites at St Mary’s Hospital, Carisbrooke Health Centre, West Wight Sports Centre, The Bay Medical Centre in Shanklin and Westridge Centre in Ryde.
It is unknown how many Islanders have been vaccinated to date as officials refuse to reveal the figures on a local level.

Wants to work around the clock, this is not giving the normal flu jab, this is a serious risk of a frightening illness and death.
Surely people wouldn’t mind night work at least until all the vulnerable are jabbed?
Might be tricky getting “vulnerable” (ie ill or frail or just elderly) into a centre at 3 in the morning?
could get all the fully paid GPs to get in there cars and travel around the the ill and frail rather than hiding away for near on a year now
I would if it meant I got the vaccine. But yes I would expect more missed appointments.
why don’t you get up and work through the night as a volunteer then
“officials refuse to reveal the figures on a local level”. So only Bozo and his hapless pals know the true situation all over the country.
Well, well. No cause for alarm, then.
Why this extended delay? I thought we are trying to save life’s and pretect the NHS. Come on get things moving before even more people die
