A Newport resident has expressed their outrage after a popular wooden statue was found vandalised yesterday (Friday).
The carved wood statue of an Eel, which is located on Connies Walk, was installed around several years ago after being made by students and was designed to represent the eels that reside in the River Medina just metres away.
Several cases of vandalism have been noted since it’s installation, with the last damage caused just weeks ago.
The new destruction, which has seen chunks of wood smashed from the ‘neck’ of the eel, has rendered the statue potentially unsalvageable and has been reported to the police.

Typical Britain This sort of thing is so commonplace here it’s almost expected. You wouldn’t see this type of thing hardly at all in Japan as people have respect for their surroundings, not like here. I blame the moronic do gooders who always stick up for lowlife and want the government to throw money at them constantly, no matter how many kids they churn out.
This vandalism is becoming more common on the island. It’s impossible for the police to be everywhere, therefore we must have more CCTV around the island to monitor what is happening and will either be a deterrent or actually assist in identifying the perpetrators.
Sadly, if they were identified there would be no real punishment that would make any difference to them. This country is just soft on the most horrible types of people, they know they can do horrible things and get away with it and nothing really bad would happen to them if caught. They know this, and so that is why it goes on.
I could rant and rave about how this country has decended into an embarasment for those who care and have principles, sadly now it seems a loosing battle that common sense by those in authority is non evident against the rise of lawlessness.
