A rescue operation is underway to free a dog walker who has become stuck in the mud in Bembridge this lunchtime (Thursday).
Coastguard Rescue Teams from Bembridge and Ventnor have been mobilised to a remote stretch of beach between Whitecliff Bay and Forelands, where a person is stuck fast in thick mud at the base of the cliff.
Their dog appears to be uninjured and is free from any sticky situation.
In a bid to reach the casualty quickly, Bembridge RNLI has launched it’s All Weather Lifeboat, deploying 2 volunteer crew members onto Bembridge Ledge using the smaller Y Boat.
RNLI crew members and Coastguard Rescue Officers are now with the casualty.
The alarm was raised with HM Coastguard at 11:30.
UPDATE @ 13:00 – Bembridge RNLI’s Y Boat is being used to transport Coastguard Rescue Officers and Isle of Wight Ambulance Service paramedics from the beach at Whitecliff Bay around to the casualty’s location.
The rescue operation continues.
UPDATE @ 13:30 – The woman has been successfully freed from the mud and has been transferred onto the Y-Boat.
Now, the casualty is being transferred onto Bembridge RNLI’s Tamar-class lifeboat for onward conveyance to Bembridge Lifeboat Station.
The immediate response is being stood down with emergency teams set to conclude the incident once the casualty is on dry land and in the care of paramedics.

How scary! Thank heavens for the rescue Heroes.
Yes, now the dag walker should reimburse them for saving her from her own stupidity.
How many call outs to dogs/dog walkers each year? Avoidable in 99% of cases, if applying common sense to one’s surroundings.
Looks like I’ve triggerd those who don’t possess common sense LOL
It must be wonderful to be so high and mighty that YOU have NEVER made a bad judgement that others have had to help you out of, whats it like being perfect??
Pretty damn fine:)
So how exactly would anyone know to avoid that area – eg what are the signs that it looks dodgy, in your opinion, Old School? Looks like gravel to me from the pictures, so genuinely would like your advice?
Heroes? Many people stroll along the beach daily. Hardly a danger to normal people only idiots who would be better with a goldfish rather than be trusted with a pet dog.
Charge the dog walker for all the costs incurred.
Same as above for you!!
If that is the case, then all the grotty yachties should be charged when they get into trouble, all the drunk drivers who need extricating from their cars when they roll them, where do you draw the line?
Glad the dog is fine
Looks like that in this case, the dog walker should have been kept on a lead….
Well done our marvellous rescue organisations and hope both the lady and her doggie are recovering well.
(Please ignore the commenters on here who know everything and never make a mistake – every community must endure them with a smile.)
Glad to see lessons have been learnt. Not as much umming & arrring & 5 hours of pour decision making this time around. Calling on other resources ( RNLI) to assist has shaved 3 hours off this job.
It certainly pays to think on your feet, hey.
Oh, the incongruity of being ‘stuck fast’, an oxymoron indeed. How could this happen on the isle?
Surely the beautiful beaches can’t be responsible for consuming humans, they’re so beautiful.
Beaches, beaches, beaches. It’s all we’ve got.
