A Brading man who is accused of causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving following a collision on New Year’s Eve 2024, has seen his case sent to the Crown Court.
George Urry, 30, of Aylett Close in Brading, appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier today (Tuesday) charged with causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving.
As previously reported by Island Echo, the collision – which occurred on New Year’s Eve 2024 and involved a Renault Clio and and a Ford – saw police, paramedics and firefighters respond to Sandown Road near Bembridge.
It is alleged that Urry’s driving caused serious injury to the driver of the Ford.
With the charge being an either way offence, the case was sent straight to the Isle of Wight Crown Court where a plea and trial preparation hearing is to take place on 7th September.
Urry was released on unconditional bail until that time.
Surely now is the time to introduce reduced speed limits
and speed camera’s.
At night many Island roads are not nice to drive on
due to motorists going too fast.
Marshcombe Shute is an example of that plus many other
roads.
Speeding is bad on the island but also under speeding is just as bad and also very dangerous to other road users
driving too slowly can be prosecuted as careless or inconsiderate driving or driving without due care and attention if it causes a hazard or danger to other road users.
That is so true.
My bug bear is I always stick to the speed limit
and I don’t then expect impatient numpties behind
to overtake.
I could understand if I was going slow, but I don’t.
Some people just cannot wait, they also have vehicles
that are made to go too fast and they want to use them
to full capacity.
If they want to speed they can get red letter days
Etc at good prices and visit a circuit on the mainland
where they can speed.
Absolute nonsense.
Suggest you attend a speed awareness course URGENTLY.
This was a young mum, taken out by a bloke driving a souped up car on the wrong side of the road in the dark with no insurance on a blind bend on New Years Eve. It has only dragged on because the police were otherwise engaged in a nearby fatality so they were not available to fully examine the scene.
That is why the island needs better Road safety measures put in
place.
People think I am crazy for going on, but believe me I am
not!
I was nearly pushed off the road by a speeding maniac along
Marshcombe Shute a few years ago near the pub.
32 years ago I was driving along on the mainland and a
vehicle full of drunk youngsters crashed into my new
car. I blacked out at the time and came round a little while after
the police were dealing with the drunks.
My vehicle was written off and I had to wait long while to be
paid out due to the other vehicle stating a different driver was
driving their vehicle even though I had full no claims with
protection.
Believe me I am not crazy, but I understand what speeding and
drink can do, nowdays we also have the worry of drug drivers.
The beauty of the island was it was always a nice place to drive
on, but over the last 20+ years it’s been getting worse.
Maybe it’s because there are a lot more people living on the
island, some households have 4+ motors.
We need speed cameras as a deterrent, some people take the
p@ss.

There aren’t “a lot more people on the Island”. And lots like me are moving back to the mainland because of far too many low lifes here and the ferry costs.
