Open-water swimmers took on the 2026 Pier2Pier Sea Swim across Sandown Bay on Saturday (1st August), with competitors completing the 1.8-mile challenge in favourable conditions.
The annual event, organised by the Isle of Wight Marlins Swim Club, once again attracted swimmers from both the Isle of Wight and further afield, all eager to tackle one of the Island’s best-known open-water events.
Setting off from beside Sandown Pier, participants swam across the bay before emerging on the beach at Shanklin, where they were greeted by spectators, volunteers and fellow competitors after completing the testing sea swim.
As always, the event relied on the support of a large team of volunteers, safety crews and kayakers, who helped ensure the swim ran smoothly from start to finish.
Now in its 72nd year, the Pier2Pier Sea Swim remains a firm favourite on the open-water swimming calendar, combining personal achievement with spectacular coastal scenery.
