A sex offender from Sandown caught in possession of yet more indecent child images, has been handed a suspended sentence.
Jake Moss, of Leed Street in Sandown, admitted a trio of indecent image offences when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court back in June.
The 20-year-old appeared before Recorder Crooknorth this morning (Friday) for sentencing.
The Court had previously heard that on 20th May 2025, Police were alerted to the offences after monitoring software on Moss’s smartphone detected the images.
The court heard how a total of 44x Category A images, 33x Category B and 13x Category C images were seized on Moss’ phone. The seized images depicted children as young as 4, the court heard.
Richard Bendall, prosecuting, said Moss had initially claimed the images appeared on his mobile after he got a virus and that the downloading of them was accidental. In a later interview, Moss admitted that he had downloaded the images; however, was adamant that he only looked at them on 3 occasions and never used them to masturbate.
Moss, who was supported in court by someone from the Isle of Wight Council’s Leaving Care Team, is already on the sex offenders register following a conviction for a similar offence in 2020 – when he was aged just 14.
Defending Moss, his solicitor Oscar Vincet told the court that his client continued to receive the full support of his family and that Moss has made it clear that he is open to intervention in a bid to stop repeat offending.
Handing down his sentence, Recorder Crooknorth told Moss “you know you are a sex offender”, before going on to say that Moss was “right to be ashamed”.
Moss was handed 10-month prison sentence suspended for 2-years. He was also ordered to complete 26 sessions of an accreddited programme, 15 rehabilitation activity days and 200 hours of unpaid work.
Moss was also handed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered to pay costs of £300.
