Isle of Wight families heading to the mainland this Summer can save even more money, with children travelling free on Hovertravel’s dedicated HoverBus service throughout August.
The offer forms part of the Government-funded ‘Kids Go Free’ initiative, which sees children aged between 5 and 15 travel free on participating bus services across England from the beginning of August.
The HoverBus, operated by First Bus on behalf of Hovertravel, links Portsmouth & Southsea railway station, The Hard Interchange, Gunwharf Quays and Portsmouth city centre with Hovertravel’s Southsea terminal, making it easier for passengers to complete their onward journey after crossing the Solent.
The initiative means Island families using Hovertravel for shopping trips, days out or onward rail travel can benefit from free bus journeys for children at the mainland end of their journey.
The announcement comes as children under 16 are also able to travel free on participating Southern Vectis bus services across the Isle of Wight throughout August under the same Government-backed scheme, helping families reduce the cost of getting around both sides of the Solent.

Hovertravel’s hovercraft makes the crossing between Southsea and Ryde in around 10 minutes, with the HoverBus providing a direct connection between the terminal and key transport hubs in Portsmouth.
The Government’s free travel initiative runs until 31st August, with participating operators across England offering unlimited free bus travel for eligible children during the school holidays.
