Within just minutes of being stood down from a search in Shanklin, emergency services were redeployed to the other side of the Isle of Wight following reports of a woman in the sea at Totland late last night (Friday).
The evening began when Ventnor and The Needles Coastguard Rescue Teams were both tasked to assist Police with a search for a high risk missing person in Shanklin at 22:20, as previously reported by Island Echo. Both teams were stood down after the man was found elsewhere.
The night didn’t end there though as within minutes another shout was reported, requiring the attendance of both teams.
All resources were immediately tasked – at 23:26 – to reports of a female entering the sea at Totland Bay, some 21 miles away by road.
Before the Coastguard teams could arrive at the scene all officers were stood down as it was confined the woman was safely with Police.
If you or someone else is in difficulty on the coast or at sea, or if you spot what you think may be unexploded ordnance, then dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard. Further safety information can be found at https://coastguardsafety.campaign.gov.uk/.

what3words have divided the world into 3m squares and given each square a unique combination of three words, which means when you are in a remote area of the Isle of Wight you can get assistance much quicker without the need for local knowledge.

Another great story from our local rag, miraculously the ‘woman’ turned into a man during the course of the night. Hallelujah Island Echo!

“What 3 Words” ??? Who has divided the world? And even if you were daft enough to try to use this, how would you find out, in a hurry/under duress, what the said 3 words were? This is a madcap scheme which can only confuse and obstruct. Reject it.
