Access along Ryde Pier by foot and vehicle will be suspended for 4 days in September as work continues on improvements at the Pier Head, meaning those wanting to access the Fastcat service must use the Island Line Train.
Cross-Solent ferry operator Wightlink has confirmed that the foot passenger walkway and vehicle lane will be closed between Friday 25th and Monday 28th September.
The closure is required to allow engineering teams to install a new electrical cable as part of ongoing improvement works at Ryde Pier Head.
Although passengers will be unable to walk and drive along the pier to reach Wightlink’s FastCat terminal during the closure, they will still be able to access Ryde Pier Head using Island Line trains, which operate between Shanklin and the Pier Head.
Wightlink says there will be no change to accessible travel arrangements, with Island Line staff able to assist passengers requiring ramps when boarding and leaving trains.
Those who currently have a vehicle parked at Ryde Pier Head are being advised to check Wightlink’s guidance on removing their vehicle ahead of the closure.
Information is also available on alternative parking arrangements and travelling to the terminal using Island Line.
The ferry operator has said:
“We apologise for any inconvenience. This essential work is required to ensure the installation can be completed safely and supports the long-term improvements at Ryde Pier Head.”
Further information about the closure and travel arrangements can be found on the Wightlink website.
