After their recent success in Ofsted, Nine Acres Primary School once again had reason to celebrate on Monday after finding out that they had been awarded the prestigious One Education Silver Reading Award.
This accolade is the culmination of several years of hard work by the school and they are now 1 of only 30 schools in the country to have received it – the 1st on the Isle of Wight!
This quality standard demonstrates the school’s commitment to building a successful reading curriculum and inspiring a love of reading. The feedback recognised the school’s ‘hard work in making reading a true priority’ and that they had ‘worked tirelessly to build an amazing reading curriculum’ with ‘much to celebrate’.
As 1 of a small group of schools in the country to have this recognition, the school looks forwards to welcoming other schools and sharing what they have learnt along their reading journey.
Mrs Dyer, the Head Teacher, said that she would like to thank the whole community who have supported the school including the parents for all their support with reading at home, volunteers who had come into school to read and the organisers of the Isle of Wight Story Festival who have fundraised each year for the children to get the opportunity to work with authors, illustrators and storytellers.
The school is excited to be working with the High Sheriff Dawn Haig-Thomas on the ‘Isle of Wight Reading Campaign’ alongside School Readers.
