COVID cases are ‘likely to rise’ after Christmas as people are allowed to mix with different household, the Isle of Wight’s public health director has warned.
Speaking at a meeting of the Isle of Wight Council’s local outbreak engagement board, Simon Bryant, said while the number of new COVID-19 cases on the Island is slowing down, it is likely that could rise again after the festive period.
As part of the Christmas celebrations, the government will ease restrictions between 23rd-27th December to allow three households to mix indoors as a bubble and should remain in that bubble, without introducing more households. This means the hands, face, space and now ventilate measures do not apply and households can have a seemingly normal Christmas.
However, public officials have said that is you do not form a bubble, the rule of six and infection control measures of Tier 1 on the Island will be enforced.
Mr Bryant also stressed how important it was to stick to the prevention measures to minimise the potential increase on the other side of the holiday period.
Councillor Dave Stewart, leader of the Isle of Wight Council, said:
“Even though you could do lots of things within the bubble, I like the phrase ‘do what you should rather than what you could’ because the more you can do to do little things like keeping the windows open, make sure to wash things down, will help keep our infection levels down so we stay in that Tier One after Christmas as well and then we can comfortably look forward to the vaccine coming in and taking place.”
Speaking after the meeting, Mr Bryant said:
“We know when people connect together in groups that is how the infection spreads. We also need to be mindful that Christmas is an important time of year for people to connect together and we need that balance.
“In terms of spreading infection … think about how you manage that and how you protect the loved ones you are meeting with, bearing in mind there is still infections circulating in the community. Certainly in the bubbles, they can be in any tier, if you are meeting anyone from a higher tier there is more likely to be a spread. “

Stop the 2nd home people ie tier 2/3 coming over and cases might not go up so much
People coming over here especially from Wales, Scotland and Tier 3 area’s in England should be tested with the quick Covid-19 test and if positive denied access to the island.
As with the high Summer Season here, numbers of cases are kept from us, so as not to frighten off those spending now, on Christmas and New Year, and, back then, coming here spending on holidays, eating out, hotels etc.
So, it is of no ‘surprise’ that the TRUE figures are again to be released ‘once’ the tills are filled as much as is possible over Christmas and New Year.
Wealth before health.
Let’s hope Granny is still here next year to decide on what slippers to buy for her.
whilst some might do things differently – a significant number will not be – and therefore, the nanny stating by the council is a waste of breath.
the council etc won’t be enforcing anything, as they will all be off for two weeks at home, getting drunk and quaffing turkey
When are people going to get into their skulls that there is no stopping this virus? It’s here, it’s established, it’s spreading, it’s not going away, no matter how much you stay indoors and watch the economy, job market, scientific advancement, technology and research collapse into a black hole.
here here.when will people stop listening too all the fake numbers and hyped up bs out there.flue is killing more people.standard anyway thst .no redic rules for that huh
You simply make your own choices how you deal with it.its here too stay .cant be eradicated as you’ll believe gov spout out.wake up and stop the uness fear.
Life goes on …so will viruses…so will deaths from anything….life as we know It!no rushed vaccine in only couple months is needed or safe.10 year testing or get lost.recovery rate is high so all quit being so scared.
If you want health issues or side affects then go for it…jab yourselves.aint gona change the crazy rules in place
As usual a great deal of flack for the second home owners and North Islanders…but we are only tier one as a consequence of geography….land mass..and population….and I can assure you all..that it has nothing to do with the public spirited behaviour of the IOW public…because it’s not like that….we have many neighbours that have payed no heed whatsoever to lockdown..distancing…the rule of six etc…the pub clientele and shoppers carry on as normal….and that will only be magnified over the Christmas period….reap what you sow Islanders..
Periodic reminder that:
1. Governments can’t “control” a virus.
2. Your neighbours aren’t killing people by living their lives.
3. China is an authoritarian country and should not be a model for Western countries.
That point of number 3, is what this plandemic, agenda 2030 and The Great Reset is all about. People just can’t get their head around this.!? But they will wish they had!!
Great statement about the cases of people with the virus will increase, and he even explains how it will happen.
The the big question is this, what exactly are the people in charge doing about it?
Inviting people to come to the island, not making sure the rules are adhered to anywhere on the island.
It appears as usual, they sprout all this carefully worded statements so they can not be held accountable.
This is obvious really, watch out for the tier 2 and 3 mob over here, right now. Thank you Red Funnel and Wightlink.
Cafés serving local people in a reasonably safe manner demanded money with menaces (legal action) by Visit Wight #Proper Up’emselves… What the heck is going on? Boris says stay at home, the IWCC begrudgingly utter, ‘Please don’t come…. ish, sort of…?’, and Seeley says, ‘Please don’t disgrace Brighstone with a motorcycle, even if you did serve with me in the Army!’ Visit Wight, however, wants money from struggling businesses for its efforts to bring tourists over! Like they need to make any effort.
