Brighstone’s Wilberforce Hall is hosting a pop-up café on Saturday 11th March, with all money raised going to Unicef Syria.
All are welcome to pop along between 10:00-17:00 for a selection of tea, coffee and homemade cakes, lunches and afternoon teas.
The idea is the brainchild of local women Gillian Belben and Genny Pentelow, who wanted to do something to help children whose lives have been affected by the war in Syria.
Gillian is a founder member of Chillerton Village Market and Café, a cooperative venture, selling local produce which gives people an excuse to chat over cakes and coffee. Her house was the venue for Chillerton’s quarterly pop-up inn in November. For 1 night only, the fourth Chillerton pop-inn saw Gillian’s house transformed into a rustic and cosy rural pub where villagers, friends and neighbours could meet and socialise.
Gillian said:
“The pop-inns have been a great success in Chillerton so we thought we’d adapt the idea for Brighstone and raise money for charity at the same time.
“The crisis in Syria has dominated our news since 2011. Although the Isle of Wight is a long way away, we wanted to do something to help the children affected.
“Unicef says that more than 8 million Syrian children are in danger this winter. Many have lost their homes, schools and even their families. Those children desperately need clothing, thermal blankets and winter supplies.
“All money raised will go to help those children so please come along and support the pop-up café”.
