Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary are to close a section of the main road to Sandown this evening to conduct a reconstruction of a fatal crash that killed a German man during the scooter rally weekend.
Newport Road will be closed between Apse Heath and Lake from 17:55 this evening for approximately 2 hours.
Police will be conducting the exercise as they continue to piece together what exactly happened on 25th August and what led to a 36-year-old woman from Ventnor being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
51-year-old Mattias Klabis, from Hamburg, was tragically killed when his scooter collided with a Citroen c3 on Newport Road outside Willow Brook and Ninham Farm campsite at around 21:45.
Klabis, who was down for the annual scooter event, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Motorists in the area are advised to avoid the road whilst the exercise is being completed.

Pointless exercise, as the position, speeds, mindset, weather, shade of trees, sunlight angle, alertness of the drivers, will all be totally different.
Just another way to clog up roads as a punishment to the plebs for daring to own a car, as the powers that be only want the elite to be driving in the near future.
A terrible case that a man died in that way, but nothing now will bring him back, and even IF the women is found guilty, being banned for a year to two is the worst that will happen.
So, imo, they should do that anyway, and stop all the farces of trying to prove something which for the reasons above, they can’t.
Well said. Complete waste of time and resources. They must have gathered all the information they needed when they closed the road at the time of the accident. Condolences for the family and friends of the unfortunate rider.
Their job is to gather evidence to see that justice is done, it may prove a person innocent and they have therefore done their job.
A poor man has lost his life. You and all the other insensitive comments on here are a disgrace. If the Police can give some indication of what happened that night to this man’s relatives, then it’s not a pointless exercise.
Try imagining if it were someone you loved! You would want answers, wouldn’t you?
Get off your high horse, cretin. At the time of the accident the police closed the road for nigh on twelve hours to investigate the accident and gather evidence. What they did last night is not going to establish any new facts.
Best way for Police to make easy money
Wait round West Street in Brading and with the amount of motorists who
Turn into a “NO” Right Turn Road
Think of the Christmas Party you could all have
I estimate you will make £1,000,00’s on a daily basis
Much more than the speeding van makes.
Many motorists on the Island do not seem to understand the
Highway code!
They could also make use of the 2 cctv cameras outside Vokins rise on ryde esplanade to catch the cars, taxis, cyclists and crown park vehicles that ignore the one way signs because they are too lazy to go round the roundabout
I saw a Taxi turn right today into West Street Brading.
Taxi’s think they are the 4th Emergency Service.
He should lose his Taxi Licence for breaking such rules.
What a pair of complete muppets. What do the police say to the poor victims family. Na sorry we didn’t bother to investigate the death as it would been waste of time. And what the hell has ignoring a no right turn in Brading got to do with this tragic death. the mind boggles !!!
Of course they should carry out their investigation.
I am talking about going forward
Stop idiots breaking rules.
What if a scooterist was coming out of West Street, who would expect an idiot
To drive into a NO right turn road
The reason there are so many accidents on the Island is because many people do not know driving rules.
Jacob
Very true
No one police’s vehicles with NO MOTs
Vehicles drive around the island for months with NO MOT
They were more concerned fining people for sitting on benches over a year ago than
Than fining persons whose vehicles have NO MOT
Just drove down Great Preston Road on my way to work
Vehicle still along the Road
I reckon it will be driving round this time next year with NO MOT
One way to beat the increase in energy bills, drive with NO MOT, therefore no
Garage bills.
You can report him online.google it.not that anything is done
Omg the police are doing their job and we still get numptys moaning !!!!!
If it was you’re family member or friend wouldn’t you want to know the truth ?????
They do work that the majority of you numptys would never be capable of….
The investigators job is to seek the truth and gather evidence, it the interest of justice. The evidence they gather can prove a persons innocence , in which case they have done their job for all of the victims in the case.
I must say those bikes are hardly eco-friendly, they chuck out the most god awful exhaust fumes, are noisy beyond belief and serve little purpose other than to create traffic, shorten life expectancy and pollute the environment. Maybe an accident like this will knock some sense into the drunk/stoned bottom feeders who ride around on them.

Maybe the lady wasn’t to blame, we all know how scooterists like to buzz around the island like wasps. Most of the time drunk, plus maybe sadly the rider forgot what side of the road we drive on. A very sad accident
