Police are hunting for a man after a vehicle was spotted driving erratically before crashing in Cowes tonight (Saturday).
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has deployed several resources including 3 ambulances and a paramedic officer to the scene at Seaview Road, where a blue van has crashed off the road and into a silver VW Golf and fencing, causing significant damage to the vehicle and to the objects it has collided with.
It’s believed that 2 men were in the van at the time of the incident, but 1 remains missing. The other has been rushed to hospital by Ambulance accompanied by police officers due to his aggressive state.
At least 5 police units are in the area with officers searching nearby sites – including side streets and an industrial compound – for any signs of the missing vehicle occupant. The police dog unit is also on the scene with dog handlers conducting a wide search.
An eyewitness has told Island Echo that they saw the suspect vehicle travelling along Newport Road at speed, ‘swerving all over the road’ and bouncing off kerbstones before colliding with another vehicle, a silver VW Golf.
The Thames Valley Air Ambulance was seen heading for the Isle of Wight, however, has since stood down.
Police continue to search for an outstanding individual.
The road remains closed at this time, with residents needing to seek permission from officers before crossing the cordon when heading their homes.
UPDATE @ 00:54 – The missing occupant of the vehicle remains unfound as resources begin to withdraw from the incident.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has stood down it’s last remaining ambulance and it’s paramedic officer from the scene – which had been waiting to provide any necessary medical care to the missing person should they be found and apprehended by Police.
Several police units have now left the scene, but a scene guard remains in place, with officers continuing to man the cordons at both ends of Seaview Road and motorists still unable to pass the scene.
It is not known when the road will be reopened to traffic.
UPDATE SUNDAY @ 10:22 – The road has now reopened.
An update on this story has now been published. Read the latest here.

Why on earth did they waste valuable resources waiting around for someone uninjured enough to do a runner?
There’s an appeal for information, the registration of the van might help !
High on some filth they’ve put into their pathetic bodies. I have no sympathy for drug/drink drivers. These morons could have killed innocent motorists or pedestrians. Should rot in prison
The ambulance service is available for this then.
