Several police units, supported by the National Police Air Service helicopter, have returned to the Whitcombe and Carisbrooke areas in an apparent suspect search this morning (Friday).
At least 3 police cars and 2 vans have taken up positions on Nunnery Lane and Whitcombe Road, with the NPAS helicopter circling around the areas of Whitcombe Manor, the Isle of Wight Deer Farm and neighbouring farm land since approximately 05:00.
It comes just hours after police conducted a large scale search for a man suspected of committing a burglary offence yesterday morning after he was found in a Whitcombe Road resident’s shed, although it has not been confirmed that police are seeking the same person in today’s search.
UPDATE @ 06:16 – The NPAS Helicopter has now stood down from the air above the area of interest after spending approximately 2 hours circling.
Ground units remain in the vicinity of Nunnery Lane, and Whitcombe Road.
It is not yet known if the person that the search has centred around has been apprehended.
Island Echo has contacted Hampshire Constabulary for a statement.
UPDATE @ 11:49 – Officers have since made an arrest following the search which took place this morning. You can read the latest here.

What a waste of time and tax payers money !!!!!!!!!!!
How much aviation fuel does a helicopter use in 2 hours? Quite a bit would be my guess. These law breaking ‘scumbags’ don’t care how much time, resource and money they have spent on them. All this for 1 man. He needs teaching a valuable life lesson, GET A JOB AND PAY YOUR WAY IN LIFE YOU THEIVING SCUMBAG.
All this for a burglar, I’d rather have had the two hours sleep from 5am til 7am this morning but instead had the helicopter keeping the whole house awake.
I wonder if you would be bleating the same clap trap if it were you or a loved one being subjected to a theft!!
