The Green Party’s co-leader, Jonathan Bartley, has visited the Isle of Wight today (Friday) following a massive 1787% increase in the number of Green votes in yesterday’s local elections.
Mr Bartley met with candidates and supporters at Appley in Ryde, where he congratulated Michael Lilley for taking victory in Ryde East ward.
The Green’s saw just 297 votes in 2013 but that rocketed to 5,606 overnight as the results for 39 wards and 40 seats across the Island were announced.
Although they only won a single seat, the Green’s came runner up in a number of wards. The large increase demonstrates the growing support for the Green’s, also highlighted by their third place victory in the General Election 2 years ago.
Vix Lowthion will once again stand for the Green Party on 8th June.
