Coppins Bridge in Newport, by far the Island’s busiest junction, is to be resurfaced by Island Roads in September.
In advance of works starting, Island Roads’ mobile visitor centre will be at Coppins Bridge on 1st September to explain more about the works and to answer any questions residents and motorists have. The centre will be at Upper Coppins Bridge Car Park between 11:30 and 14:00 and outside County Hall between 14:30 and 16:00.
The Coppins Bridge work is expected to begin on Wednesday 14th September and last 9 nights. Work will be carried out at night between the later start time of 22:00 and 06:00 in order to reduce disruption. Work will not be undertaken at the weekends which will also reduce inconvenience.
As well as resurfacing the roundabout itself, the project will also resurface the approaches to the roundabout including Snooks Hill.
Project engineer Derek Benfield said:
“By working at night, and in this case with a later start time, we are doing all we can to minimise disruption.
“This is a unique site and we have refined the traffic management plans and the work schedule to ensure the project is undertaken over the shortest possible time and with the least inconvenience.”
