Local athlete Kim Murray is being backed for future success by Barratt Homes.
The 26-year-old is one of eight sportsmen and women bidding for a place in Team GB for the Skeleton event – and Barratt is providing funds towards the former Ryde High School pupil’s training.
Kim said:
“I started out as a long jump specialist – setting a Natwest Island Games record – but an injury forced me to call time on that particular event.
“I saw an opportunity to try out for the skeleton – and thought I’d give it a go. The trials went really well – and now I’ve been selected onto the British Skeleton Talent Squad, with a fighting chance of taking part in the next Winter Olympics in South Korea 2018 and beyond.
“Barratt has been so supportive in my bid – sponsoring me and offering encouragement. Now I’ve been selected for the skeleton programme and everything looks great for the future.
“I realise there is a lot of work to do before I reach my dream – but I’ll be giving it everything I have. I have to travel abroad a lot for training which means taking unpaid leave from work and equipment is very expensive – it all adds up. So, I’d really like to thank Barratt for showing such faith in me.”
The housebuilder is keen to build strong partnerships with those living within the communities it serves, and supporting local sportsmen and women is part of that.
Barratt sales director Michelle Storer said:
“Kim is an excellent example to young athletes from across the Island and the country. Her commitment and drive make her a tremendous prospect for the future. We are providing her with funds to put towards her expenses – and will be following her progress very carefully over the coming months.
“We wish her every success in the pursuit of her Olympic dream and we’re looking forward to supporting her along the way.”
