A Newport woman who didn’t attend her drug rehab appointments as she was visiting her dad, and didn’t have a phone to let probation know, has pleaded guilty to failing to comply with a community order.
Rachel Hewitt, 39, of Angelica Grove, pleaded guilty to 3 counts of failing to comply with the requirements of a community order when she appeared in front of Magistrates on Friday.
Probation told the court that on no fewer than 3 occasions during the month of September Hewitt failed to attend scheduled appointments relating to her community order.
The first appointment was a drug rehabilitation review on 2nd September as well as planned office appointments on 12th and 20th September.
Attempts to contact Hewitt after missed appointments fell on deaf ears with the 39-year-old making no effort to explain her absence from these mandatory sessions.
Her original community order was issued back in April when the drug addict pleaded guilty to handling stolen goods.
Defending her, Oscar Vincent said that Hewitt had been spending a lot of time at her father’s house after he had been suffering from ill health. The 39-year-old also admitted that she didn’t have a phone meaning contacting probation about her appointments was difficult.
Rachel Hewitt saw her original 12-month community order revoked and re-sentenced.

She must be the only person in the UK who, allegedly, doesn’t own a phone!
And I bet they didn’t even ask her to turn out her pockets. Usual useless courts.
Yep,but sure her friends ,her father will have and there are such things around called payphones (only a few I know) maybe she has a tablet/laptop – what’s wrong with email ?. The world used to still manage with out mobiles.
It’s obvious this offender has no intention of complying with any punishment other than a custodial sentence. Stop wasting police/court/probations time and money and send her to custody
