Maverick TV are filming a new series of the popular television show ‘Bizarre ER’ at St Mary’s Hospital, Newport over the next 10 weeks.
The Isle of Wight’s hospital has been selected as a filming location for a new 10-part observational documentary series alongside A&E departments in Dudley, Basingstoke and Warwick.
Following the demise of BBC Three, the new series is being produced for E4 and will see quirky, unusual or especially interesting walking-wounded cases documented. The hour-long episodes will be aired later this year in the Autumn.
A spokesman for Isle of Wight NHS Trust said:
“We’re delighted to be collaborating with Maverick TV. Participation in the filming is entirely voluntary for both patients and staff.
“We’re very pleased with how it is going so far.”
Maverick won’t be filming patients in resus or anyone who is unconscious and they never film cases where there is a danger of death – and always take advice from a doctor on the suitability of a potential case before filming. Maverick’s stories are carefully selected so that they always have a happy ending and a satisfying medical conclusion.
Maverick TV will be making a charitable donation to the hospital to cover the period of time that they are filming there.
