So who didn’t look both ways and see motorcycle coming
Years ago there was a TV ad’ Showing a motorbike with it’s headlamp on during the day. The caption was ‘isn’t your life worth a light ?’ For many years afterwards most motorbike riders complied, but now alas not many do. IT MAKES ALL THE DIFFERENCE !
All motorcycles are required by law to have lights on, they are built with lights on all the time, been like that 30+years…your comment on the scene of a crash, with SHOUTY LETTERS shows your lack of understanding, the riders family are most likely reading this if not the rider himself, hes been knocked off i suspect by a car driver leaving the pub, probably a bit sore, then theres you , giving it the big one..since 1st lockdown ended car drivers have been pulling out on me, generally not looking, the Range in Cowes is very risky to ride past to the roundhouse without the greys creeping across the road looking the other way..
There was also one which said: THINK ONCE, THINK TWICE, THINK BIKE !
I think the advice has changed. With headlamps, when a motorcycle hits a bump, it can look like they are flashing their lights to give way. (Of course, flashing your lights is not actually a sign that you are giving way and in most countries means the opposite). Happened to me many times and I opted for using non-focussed but bright sidelights instead of headlights. Simple advice is to assume you are invisible on a motorcycle and drive accordingly.
Pretty much every motorcycle made in the last 20 years has one headlight on at all times. You literally can’t turn it off.
The advice changed some years ago because drivers frequently mistake the headlamp as a signal that the motorcyclist is giving way (particularly when the bike hits a bump). Of course, flashing your lights is not actually a signal that you are giving way – in many countries it means quite the opposite. Best advice is to assume you are invisible on a motorcycle and drive accordingly.
Why don’t you enlighten us as you were an eye witness ?
Had the exact same thing happen many a time riding along that road . But sadly you’ll get little agreement/ sympathy here… :-/
Probably on the phone… its rife and something needs to be done
Excuse me but where in the article does it say the car driver was at fault?
99% of the time they are
What happened to the motorcyclist? Are they OK? or did they end up in hospital?
