Medina Marching Band had the honour of taking part in the Palace Parade Review in the Kings Garden at Hampton Court Palace on Sunday (30th June) during London Band Week. Honours Bands paraded in turn for 10 minutes each through the Palace Garden, concluding with a 3-minute static performance. Then the day was rounded off with Drum Line London, The Battle of The Flower Pot Gate, a fast paced, knock out style contest of percussion performance. Skill and flair ruled the day as the drum lines replaced the medieval knights who once competed on the same site. London Band Week is an Invitation only event, the selection and invitation process follows The Honours System of the United Kingdom, universally recognized as the Kings Honours & Awards. Bands are assessed on two primary criteria: 1. their core values and principles and 2. their passion for performance excellence.
Medina Marching Band had the honour of representing the Island alongside some of the finest Youth Bands in the UK, the Band of HM Royal Marines and The Ohio University Marching Band, a 225-member marching band. Kevin Downer, Chairman of Medina Marching Band, said:
“It’s an honour for the band to be participating in such a prestigious event, and we are proud to be representing our little Island. “This is one of if not the biggest of events in the band’s calendar, and we once again did the Island proud.”
