The Medina Marching Band will be representing the Island at the prestigious London Band Week this weekend (Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd July).
The event, which is invitation-only, selects participants on 2 main criteria – their core values and principles and their passion for performance excellence.
They will be performing alongside some of the finest Youth Bands in the UK, the Bands of HM Royal Marines and The Pride of the Southland Tennessee, a 320 strong College band all the way from the United States of America, which is the biggest band to ever travel and play in the UK.
The 1st of the events is at London’s ExCel Centre on Saturday 1st July at 19:00 where there will be a special performance to celebrate marching bands. Under the Musical Direction of Major Ian Davis, Royal Marines, the intimate musical only Tattoo will conclude with a massed bands grand finale and Ceremonial Sunset.
On Sunday 2nd July, there is the Palace Parade Review in the King’s Garden at Hampton Court Palace. The London band week Honours Bands will parade in turn for 10 minutes each through the Palace Garden concluding with a 3-minute static performance.
Then the day rounds off with Drum Line London, The Battle of The Flower Pot Gate. A fast paced, knock out style contest of percussion performance. Skill and flair will rule the day as the Drum lines replace the medieval knights who once competed on the same site. To the victorious Drum Line belongs the spoils: The Kings Shield!
Kevin Downer, Chairman of the Medina Marching Band said:
“It’s an honour for the band to be participating in such a prestigious event and we are proud to be representing our Little Island. This is 1 of if not the biggest of events in the band’s history since its formation in 1976 and we will do the Island proud.”

This band are incredibly good, let’s hope they do very well.
