A man in his 70s is the latest person to die from COVID-19 on the Isle of Wight.
Latest data reveals that the individual died at St Mary’s Hospital on Wednesday (25th November), just days after another person died on 17th November.
A total of 98 people have now died as a result of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, 48 of these deaths occurring in the hospital. 46 deaths have also occurred in care homes across the Island, alongside 3 deaths at home and 1 at the hospice.
The Isle of Wight is still considered one of the safest places in the country in terms of the coronavirus, with the Island 1 of just 3 locations to be classed as Tier 1. A total of 948 cases have been recorded here.

Rip
Yea is safest place ,but why you keep constantly keep posting here every time 1 odd person dies! Its unnessesary and boring.what….your trying too again too scaremonger folk.who believe the fake numbers.dont add too it! Post cancer deaths post flue deaths?cos both are killing more and are way worse than covid.!
The death of the English language in your diatribe is a tragedy Tom
Bloody idiot
Totally agree my friend
You are right Tom but the sheep are so brainwashed now by the government and mainstream media and seem to in a perverse way enjoy the scaremongering. This man who sadly died probably had other health conditions too. There are hundreds of people dying every day for other reasons that don’t get mentioned at all by the mainstream media.Suicides due to lockdown, untreated and undiagnosed cancers due to lockdown, pneumonia and seasonal flu are some of them but they don’t fit in with the covid killer virus narrative do they
Every death is a tragedy for the deceased family. But I would not worry about being told of every one who dies. My guess is in the New Year we will be in a higher tier than now, the amount of people who are coming to the Island from higher tier areas to spend Christmas on the Island will I think increase the spread of the Covid on the Island.
Couldn’t agree more ,bobiow we will have our worst time after Christmas
Wash your hands and keep your distance. You do not have to catch it! Happy new year.
Im sorry but did you treat every person from the mainland like this when Aids first hit the headlines! you are making out the island residents are so unique in not getting any illness! well just think for once before you engage a island brain! these people on the mainland are your islands bread and butter and no they are not all carrying the plaque as most media channels are reporting! Its a flu virus and if you check the true statistics out more people are dying from other reasons yet they are not mentioned
just get real!
What a ridiculous comparison. AIDS and coronavirus are completely different in the way they work and who they infect! As you said it’s a flu virus which means anyone can catch it. And believe it or not we don’t rely solely on mainland visitors to survive. I understand they are a large part of our income but there are huge numbers of islanders employed by companies that don’t rely on the visitor trade.
My whole family included. It’s true we are not unique in not getting any illnesses but there is a reason we are one of three places in the whole country in tier 1.
yes unique in that there are only 60,000 people on the island and not millions like the mainland so really the figures should be adjusted to reflect this then im sure you would be in tier 3 like the rest of the country! on the point of your not reliant on the mainlanders im sure if you look at all the business the island carry’s out the raw material along with the buyers are from the mainland and beyond as im sure the island isnt so much a stand alone country you sound like Nicola north of our border
I suggest you speak to our government about the figures and why we are in tier 1 then. It sounds to me like you are just jealous as you are from the mainland.
islanders don’t want mainlanders here full stop – they certainly don’t want second home owners showing up – they are seen as a burden on the island.
covid is an upper respiratory tract infection and the media hype and stupidity of SAGE as well as dumb government ministers is why we are where we are.
There are no restrictions on travel from tier 1 to tier 2 and vice versa, so expect plenty of people from the mainland to be on the island.
the ferries won’t be asking anyone about where they are from
I’m sure Bob Seely will make sure that visitors are given rapid tests before boarding the ferry. They have had enough to test thousands in Liverpool.
RIP, thoughts to his family and loved ones. I’m sure it’s WITH not FROM as the government will have you believe.
So sad RIP thoughts are with you x
I think it’s more important to understand that a man ,brother , father , friend has lost his life so maybe just have a little respect and probably better to debate about coronavirus on another platform other than the one being used to report a poor man loosing his life . Be kind
Of the 10% of the cases who have apparently died from this virus, how many have had post mortems?
