Police are hunting for a group of men who burst into a caravan, seriously assaulted a man and stole his Cartier watch in Apse Heath during the early hours of this morning (Thursday). Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has launched an investigation into the aggravated burglary, which occurred at a caravan park off Newport Road shortly before 02:00. A 57-year-old man received a head injury during the home invasion and was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital. His injuries are not deemed life threatening. Police say that the victim had his phone and a Cartier watch stolen from him. Island Echo understands 3 men were seen fleeing in a silver car but no arrests have been made at this time. Enquiries remain ongoing. Officers are keeping guard outside the property which has been cordoned off as a crime scene.
This incident at what was previously known as Village Way Caravan Park comes just 2-and-a-half years after another serious assault at the same site. If anyone has information about this incident, or has been offered the sale of a Cartier watch in suspicious circumstances, they should contact Police on 101, quoting 44230447772.
