A lorry has ground out and is blocking the main road between Newport and Arreton causing major traffic delays this afternoon (Monday).
The incident has seen a large lorry and trailer become stuck across the carriageway on the A3056 outside Wight Building Materials in Blackwater.
Attempting to turn into the plant, the back end of the lorry has grounded out with the trailer still attached, wedged underneath.
This is despite signs warning of the risk of grounding out at the entrance to the plant.
Southern Vectis Route 2 buses are currently unable to serve the area and are instead diverting via Rookley, Blackwater Hollow and Blackwater Road in both directions.
It is believed the road is passable for those in small cars, with workers sending vehicles up towards the plant to bypass the lorry, but vans, lorries, and buses cannot use the popular Newport – Sandown route until the road is cleared.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area with traffic building in both directions whilst recovery of the vehicle is being arranged.
UPDATE @17:10 – Bartletts are now at the scene arranging recovery of the vehicle and its trailer.
Traffic should be back to normal in a short while once the road is cleared.

More idiots will be along soon…
