The Government has confirmed that the lockdown restrictions currently in place are to continue this week and will remain in place until the evidence suggests that changes can be made.
For the past 3 weeks, Islanders have been following the guidelines and restrictions imposed in order to protect the NHS and save lives. Households tuned in to listen to Prime Minister Boris Johnson explain the Government’s approach to the crisis and ever since people’s lives have changed dramatically.
It was originally said that the lockdown would be reviewed after 3 weeks – today – but with Boris Johnson still recovering from COVID-19 and the peak yet to be reached, that review has been pushed back.
Dominic Raab, First Secretary of State, has said that the scientific advisory group (SAGE) will meet later this week to review the evidence before them and make recommendations to the Government on the next steps to take. However, Mr Raab has said that the current situation won’t change this week and will not change until the peak has been passed.
The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus on the Isle of Wight since the pandemic began has increased to 56, with 11 deaths confirmed.

Noooooooo, I can’t take much more of the tell tales, moaning about someone daring to spend a day on the beach, or cycling, or jogging, but then moaning how depressed THEY are, by being shut in, with smoking chimneys, neighbours dope, jet ski, having a party, or visitors, with adhd or additionals swarms of dole kept kids, homeless throwing needles around, chavs adjusting the seating arrangements of Ventnor etc.
Can’t we go back to the broken floating bridge, solitary car accidents, the train or ferry not running, and the occasional chimney fire.
Never realised we had it so good.
Some may miss hearing the drunken revellers going home of a night, I don’t!
The only good thing about all this. The nights are quieter.
It has to stay in force until week past the peak; if they relax things when they see we are “past the peak” then all they’re doing is sitting us up for a second wave.
People have to get used to the idea that this needs to stay in action until we have no more cases
Some Islanders are STILL not following Government guidelines unfortunately, a very sad National fact we see every night on tv. Until we ALL do, then measures CANNOT be relaxed….we cannot afford to.
Let’s hope the weather stays nice.
As the main income for many on Wight seems to stem from having vast amounts of various fathered children, those who have them are not used to enduring their little delights for too long each day, having others be it schools, nursery’s or a cresh to dump them onto.
Will come hard if they have to look after what they are now paid and housed to have themselves.
How does it go? ” I wouldn’t be without them – But…
Gosh, looks like this is worse than many wish us to know, how much longer must the world be on pause?
Thought that as soon as the NHS could attempt to treat the dying we would be set free to catch and die in manageable numbers. Thought UK numbers of dying were less now
My take is, Gov don’t wish to have masses dying at home or in the street with the huge negative publicity which such would create in a so called civilised society.
So, all they are doing, is buying enough time to ensure that the same amount will still die, but over a much longer time scale of up to two years.
But as these deaths will be in the confines of a hospital, then the terrible scenes will be less shocking to the public, just ‘numbers’ and so will not harm the Government or Party as much as it would should be die in full view, because the huge amounts would have swamped the NHS otherwise.
HMG want us back to work, as the economy will crumble, but they daren’t risk being blamed for horrific scenes and prefer such in the secrecy of a hospital ward.
NOT being critical of HMG, as they have little choice, but that is what I think the idea is.
Too much time on your hands, you are over thinking. Play patience or video games, watch tele, anything start thinking about what you are doing instead.
Jerme, you’re completely right. Would be like the plague days again if they didn’t try to spin it out.
And now I’m told the virus is mutating so people who had it once, are getting it again. But apparently Spanish flu, (funny how we’re allowed to call it that, but can’t say the Wu flu, or Chinese virus,) killed loads of old people, then came back and killed loads of young people, then mutated itself weaker and weaker each time til it was out of existence.
Whatever happens, I don’t think life will ever be the same again.
Oh yes it will, people will make it happen. I shall live my life ,as I did before this virus, and if you the people want that then you can make it happen . But what you havent seen is what’s been going on in the world other then this virus . Everyone has been so scared, ( not everyone hey ministers) that a major event took place ,without any backlash. Just as they wanted. China,Saudi Arabia to name a few have now become members of the UN human rights committee! Yes China! This so called virus has been a great smoke screen for the powers in charge to change laws etc . As I have said before, this life change they want is just the start. If you care about the future and what it may bring, type in google social credit, and read, then you can be really scared. Watching with interest
Nobody below mentioned the effects on the NHS, Care Service, transport company’s, shop workers or the very young and old with underlying conditions. These also have to be taken into consideration. So stay in, stay safe until told otherwise !!
To all the employed hard working people how do the low life people who don’t want to work do this at home all day every day you can see why people’s heads are all messed up
Plenty of village idiots were we are , have to use local shop daily for a biscuit and bread roll , when will these complete selfish idiots realise , probably when they spread it to the hard working people who have to serve them
