Cheques totalling over £40,000 were presented by Isle of Wight Freemasons to local charities at a special evening at Cowes Masonic Hall last Thursday (30th May). Representatives from over 20 Island charities, along with local dignitaries including His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon and High Sheriff Graham Biss, attended the presentation and were welcomed by the Chairman for the Solent Area, Worshipful Brother Clive Dobson. The event was held to recognise the tremendous work the many charities and unsung heroes give in delivering a wide range of support to residents here on the Isle of Wight. It provided a forum for the charity representatives to talk about the fantastic work they carry out in our community. It was a moving experience and all who attended were left with much to ponder. There are some 900 Freemasons meeting in 18 Lodges at 8 centres across the Island. Kindness and charitable giving have long been deeply ingrained within the principles of Freemasonry. To this end, Isle of Wight Freemasons donated over £40,000 to local Isle of Wight charities in 2023. The evening was hailed a great success by all who attended.

And £750,000.000 sits in the council pension pot……..
Yes, “Old School” (strange name to hid-behind). Thank you for sharing the good news.
As per the recent press announcement, the Isle of Wight Pension Fund has been very prudently invested for the benefit of its 18,000 members – and as a result its recent valuation came in at slightly over £750,000,000.
Those members include past and present employees of Isle of Wight Council and a wide range of other organisations such as local colleges, town and parish councils and those providing community services on behalf of the Council.

Cllr Chris Jarman JP
Chair Isle of Wight Pension Fund Committee
Ahhh jarman, the closet tory who caused so much upset in the chambers, just to stoke his inflated ego, wont be happy until he is councl leader, which will never happen, misrepresenting himself by saying he is part of the empowering islanders(which is laughable in itself) him and seely are of the same ilk,NEVER vote for this fool,a tory in disguise!
You must be a mason then Mr Jarman.
Of course you’re not allowed to say are you.
The masons are at the heart of corruption in Britain, police, magistrates and local councillors.
Keep believing in your supreme being.
IWC & prudent ?? those letters and word can never go together ..
And ? I paid in for 30 odd years, not in a highly paid post, why should I not get my pension same as anybody! Honestly talk about a silly comment!
Pity they couldn’t have donated that to reopen the ice rink or Robin Hill or the many other attractions that have had to close down. Noone hears the good of what happens to charity donations
Do you want them to donate money to private companies then?
No-one hears the good?? What are you talking about? Look around you in everyday life and you can see the good that these smaller charities do. Many are run solely by volunteers with each and every penny going towards what they do.
Well done to each and everyone of them
The funny handshake brigade strikes again!
