Floral tributes were laid at Church Litten park this afternoon (Saturday), in memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
Local dignitaries descended on the popular park in Newport for a short moment of reflection at 13:00.
Chairman of the Isle of Wight Council, Councillor Claire Critchison and the High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight, Kay Marriott both laid a posy of white and red lilies in respect of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II – who sadly died on Thursday.
The flowers were laid next to the numerous bunches given in tribute by the public in the days since her Majesty’s death.
Flowers are still welcome at the site next to the library whilst it is unclear as to whether there will be a place to lay flowers at tomorrow’s proclamation announcing at St Thomas’ Square at 13:00.
Kay Marriot said:
“Her Majesty will be greatly missed, and our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family and the people of our Island community, to whom she meant so much.”
Councillor Critchison, said:
“For those who wish to lay flowers in remembrance or take a moment of reflection, Church Litten is a peaceful and accessible place to be able to do this. Thank you to those that have made this possible.”
