Flying medics from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance have touched down in Ryde tonight (Sunday) in a late night mission to provide enhanced care to a poorly male.
It was a 23:25 that the helicopter landed at Simeon Street recreation ground, near the Esplanade, to rendezvous with the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, whose paramedics are caring for a patient who now requires specialist care in a mainland hospital.
The assistance of the life-saving air ambulance charity was requested shortly after 23:00, with the helicopter, the pilot and it’s crew of 3 medics quickly airborne from the service’s new base at Southampton Airport – just a short 10 minute flight across the Solent to the Isle of Wight.
Doctors and paramedics are now assessing the patient, who is being treated in an ambulance on Rink Road.
An assessment will be made as to whether or not to fly the patient to the mainland.
UPDATE – The patient has been conveyed directly to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Portsmouth.
