Bembridge’s All Weather Lifeboat was launched to evacuate an unwell crew member from an oil tanker at anchor off the coast of the Isle of Wight this morning (Tuesday).
Solent Coastguard requested the launch of Bembridge RNLI’s lifeboat, which hit the water at 11:45, when reports were received from the Norwegian-flagged ‘Bow Summer’ that a member of the ship’s crew had been taken unwell.
It didn’t take long for the volunteer lifeboat crew to locate the vessel at Nab Anchorage.
The casualty, who was suffering from back and shoulder pains, was transferred onto the ‘Alfred Albert William’s Tamar-class lifeboat and taken directly to Portsmouth.
Once alongside at Camber, the unwell casualty was transferred into an awaiting ambulance for onward conveyance to Queen Alexandra Hospital.
The lifeboat was recovered at Bembridge Boathouse by 13:00.
I’ve had back pains for over a month. Can I get a job on a tanker? I might get some treatment a bit quicker. My sympathies with the poor person involved and thank heavens for lifeboats
