A 32ft yacht rendered virtually immobile when its spinnaker became wrapped around the keel has been towed to safety by Cowes RNLI this afternoon (Sunday).
The Fortify – with a man and woman aboard – sought help whilst mid-Solent as their yacht became in danger of drifting into the main shipping channel off Cowes.
Cowes RNLI lifeboat, with Neil Archer at the helm, was launched at 12:19 after being tasked by Solent Coastguard.
Although the spinnaker had to be cut loose, the lifeboat crew believed at least part of it was still attached to the keel as the yacht was slowly towed to East Cowes Marina.
The lifeboat returned to station at 13:19.
